Filling closets and hearts.

The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital cares for children of all ages with complex heart abnormalities. These abnormalities often require one or multiple surgeries, sometimes within the first few weeks of being born, and can result in several-month stays for some children. As care providers who go the extra mile, the nurses created a special room called "Margaret's Closet" that they stock year-round with clothing and items that will make the children’s hospital stay feel a little more like home. To create a sense of normalcy, the nurses and staff use the clothing to dress the children in everyday outfits and rejoice in witnessing the smile on their families’ faces when they see their child dressed for the very first time.

KicKee Pants was delighted to contribute to such a worthy cause by helping to fill “Margaret’s Closet” with swaddles, socks, coveralls, one pieces, and more, which will be donated to patients over the next several months. As one nurse passionately expressed, "Sometimes these beautiful items are the only thing our patients can call their own — it's enough to bring you to tears."
