Please help us raise funds for Epidermolysis Bullosa research and partnership!

Brady Attar was born in July 2016 in Houston, Texas. After a healthy pregnancy and smooth labor, my husband Chris and I welcomed our dear son into the world. Moments after he arrived, we noticed something was terribly wrong — Brady’s feet were raw, bleeding and missing skin. Brady was carefully bundled and placed in front of us to allow us to kiss his blistered, fragile lips before being rushed to the NICU. In the two weeks that followed, Brady underwent biopsies and several tests that would conclude that he had inherited a rare genetic condition — recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa or RDEB.

Each day, Brady endures dressing changes that last two to three hours. They are excruciating. They require many steady hands and loving arms to comfort and calm him. His arms, hands, torso, legs and feet are always bandaged. The healing of his wounds can take weeks to months, and they always re-blister. In the midst of it all, he shines. He is resilient, brave and spirited. Brady works diligently with physical and occupational therapy three days a week. Perhaps most profoundly, Brady is learning to stand and hopefully soon walk on his tender, fragile and often still wounded feet.

While we wish we could do something to alleviate Brady’s physical pain, we at least wanted to help his family raise money for RDEB research in hopes that some day there will be a cure or prevention. KicKee donated two first-year-of-life baskets (one boy, one girl) that included pj sets, onesies, sleep gowns, hats, bibs, rompers, pants and shirts to be auctioned off at the Believe in Brady event on April 8, 2018.
